Stack falling blocks and clear rows in a 3D arena across Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra modes.
←/→ or A/D to move. ↓ or S to soft drop. ↑, W, or X to rotate. Z to rotate the other way. Space to hard drop. C or Shift to hold. Enter to start. P/Esc to pause.
Blockfall is a falling-block puzzle I built solo with AI assistance from ChatGPT. It uses a 10 by 20 board, seven familiar tetromino shapes and a shallow 3D presentation. The rules stay on a flat grid even when the camera is angled. HTML, CSS and Three.js provide the browser game and its surrounding controls.
Marathon continues until the board fills too high. Sprint asks you to clear 40 lines as quickly as possible. Ultra ends after two minutes, making score the target within that limit. Every ten cleared lines raises the level and increases gravity, so the same stack becomes harder to manage as a run develops.
Pieces arrive through a seven-bag randomizer: each shuffled bag contains one of each shape. The interface shows the next five pieces and a hold slot. Hold can be used once before the current piece locks. A ghost preview marks where a hard drop will land, helping you compare placements before committing.
The scoring rules include consecutive-clear combos, four-line clears, T-spins and a bonus for emptying the board completely. Back-to-back difficult clears can increase the reward. These bonuses make the order of placements matter, rather than rewarding only the number of blocks you put down. The local record list ranks completed Sprint runs by time and the other modes by score.
Use Left and Right or A and D to move. Up, W or X rotates clockwise; Z rotates counterclockwise. Down or S soft-drops, Space hard-drops, and C or Shift holds. P or Esc pauses. Touch buttons provide movement, clockwise rotation, both drop actions and hold.
The technical problem is keeping rotation predictable near walls and stacked blocks. The engine tries SRS kick offsets when a rotated piece would collide, and uses a 500-millisecond lock delay with a limited number of resets. Three.js 0.180.0 renders rounded blocks through RoundedBoxGeometry. GLTFLoader loads Kenney Space Kit props, and optional OrbitControls changes the viewing angle without changing grid rules. Settings and up to 100 recent run records remain in localStorage. Blockfall is part of the free Solo Game Devs collection, with a standalone HTML download planned.
