This game needs a keyboard — it may not work well on a touch-only device.

Little Leap: a Mario-style platformer in one meadow

Little Leap is a browser platformer I built solo with AI assistance from ChatGPT. Its small Oopi character moves across a meadow of grassy platforms, coins and patrolling critters. The project uses HTML, CSS and Three.js, with side-scrolling movement presented through a 3D scene. The playable character comes from Kenney's Platformer Kit.

One level with reasons to climb

There is one authored level, containing 40 coins and three optional stars. Some coins follow the ground route, while raised ledges lead toward the stars. Reaching the finish flag completes the level; collecting every item is not required. The final panel reports coins, stars and elapsed time, giving a repeat run a clear target.

You start with three lives. Falling into a gap costs a life and returns you to the start or the activated midpoint checkpoint. Contact with a critter from the side also hurts. Landing on one from above defeats it and produces a bounce. The checkpoint sits around the middle of the route, reducing how far you need to repeat after a later fall.

Jump timing and forgiving input

Move with A and D or the Left and Right arrows. Space, W or Up jumps, while holding Shift increases movement speed. P or Esc pauses the game. Touch controls provide left, right and jump buttons. The keyboard's run action has no separate touch button, so the two input layouts are not identical.

The central technical problem is making a jump respond near platform edges. The simulation includes a short coyote-time window after leaving a ledge and a jump buffer before landing. Floating platforms are one-way: the character can rise through them and land on top while falling. Updates run through a fixed-step accumulator, and the landing test checks the previous height against the platform surface.

Meadow models and browser play

Three.js 0.180.0 draws the scene with an orthographic camera and soft shadows. GLTFLoader loads Kenney Platformer Kit and Nature Kit assets, while RoundedBoxGeometry helps build the terrain's rounded forms. The game keeps collectibles and checkpoint state for the active run only; it does not save progress in localStorage. Little Leap is part of the free Solo Game Devs collection, with a standalone HTML download planned. For a larger view, use the browser's fullscreen mode.
