Play a space-themed Pong against the computer or a friend, with boosted hits and extra abilities.
Player 1: W/S or mouse. Player 2: ↑/↓. Space for player 1's boost, Enter for player 2's. Esc to pause. C for camera. M to mute.
Pong — Orbital starts with the familiar contest between two paddles and a ball. I made this browser remake solo with AI assistance from ChatGPT, then added three rule sets around the same court. The objective stays clear in all of them: send the ball past the opposite paddle and be the first player to reach seven points.
Classic keeps the court free of pickups and charged shots. Overdrive adds a charge meter that builds through successful returns. Once full, you can arm the next hit to send back a faster ball. Pickups can widen a paddle for nine seconds or slow the balls for six seconds. Chaos adds multiball to that pickup pool, so several balls can be active together.
The return angle depends on where the ball meets the paddle and how the paddle is moving. That gives a late adjustment a different result from a centred, stationary return. You can play against Nova, the computer opponent, with three difficulty choices, or choose a local two-player match on the same device.
Player one moves with W and S or the mouse. In local matches, player two uses Up and Down. Space arms the first player's charged shot; Enter does the same for the second player. Touch input supports dragging on each player's side and double-tapping to arm a shot. Esc pauses, C changes the camera and M toggles sound.
Fast returns create a practical collision problem: a ball should not step past a thin paddle between checks. The simulation divides updates into steps no larger than one two-hundred-and-fortieth of a second. Paddle impact then uses the hit offset and paddle velocity to calculate the next direction. The computer also predicts where an incoming ball will arrive after wall bounces, with different movement limits and aiming error by difficulty.
Three.js 0.180.0 renders the court. RoundedBoxGeometry shapes its rounded parts, GLTFLoader loads Kenney Space Kit props, and EffectComposer uses RenderPass, UnrealBloomPass and OutputPass for the lighting finish. The longest rally is saved locally as the personal best. Orbital belongs to the free Solo Game Devs collection, with a standalone HTML download planned alongside browser play.
